Definition of downrigger
A trolling device used by anglers to drop heavy weights attached to a main cable from the back or side of a moving boat with clips to hold their fishing line to a specific depth. When a fish strikes the bait or lure, the clip will release the line to allow the angler to land the fish with the rod and reel.
