Drag

Definition of drag

The mechanical force put on a fishing reel from internal devices creating tension to control or keep line from being pulled off the spool. Most fishing reels have adjustable drag systems, with the exception of various fly, center pin, and ice fishing reels. Those reels require backreeling or “palming” the spool for line control.

How to use drag in a sentence

Be careful not to set your drag too tight and snap your line when fighting a fish.
