Definition of drift sock
Drift socks are typically made of canvas and shaped like a funnel with a hole at the tip. These tools are dropped off the side(s) of a boat and used to slow a drifting boat down by catching and holding water. Drift socks act as an anchor or weight on a boat that has no motor running.

• Trolling Bag – Similar in function, just used on boats with a propelled motor running.
