Definition of felt sole
The bottoms of wading boots with a dense fiber resembling the texture of felt and provides tremendous traction on gravel and slippery rock surfaces such as shale. They do not perform well in icy, muddy, or grassy areas. Felt soles have been banned in some areas due to the material being able to transport invasive species from one waterway to another.
