Fly Line Backing

Definition of fly line backing

Fly line backing is a braided line typically made of Dacron. It is spooled onto a fly reel first, then connected to your fly line. A 20lb or 30lb braided line is most commonly used.

How to use fly line backing in a sentence

When hooked, a big, aggressive gamefish might swim farther away from you than the length of your fly line. If this is the case, you would need to rely on your fly line backing giving you extra line length to fight the fish.
