Foul Hook

Definition of foul hook:

To hook a fish anyway other than having the fish bite or swallow the hook. Foul hooking can also be referred to as “snagging” a fish. This is the opposite of fair hooking.

In some waters, foul hooked fish cannot be kept and must be thrown back.

How to use foul hook in a sentence:

He thought the fish took the bait, but when he reeled the fish in, he could see the fish had been foul hooked right outside of the lip.
