Definition of lead core
Lead core is lead-centered line with an outer sheath. Primarily, this type of line is used for trolling since it is much stronger and denser than other types of fishing line. The density allows the line to sink extremely fast without the outside help of weights. Lead core lines are usually much larger in diameter than lines like monofilament or fluorocarbon, which results in the need to use reels with larger spools. Since lead core line is thicker and very visible to fish, most anglers use a monofilament or fluorocarbon leader.
