Definition of roll cast
A fly fishing casting technique used for tight-quarters where no backcasting space is available, where the angler loads the rod by raising the rod near their ear and quickly flipping the line forward with one forward stroke. It is also useful in heavy wind conditions and for quickly re-casting a fly. Best used with graphite fly rods.
