Definition of stripping line

Stripping line refers to the motion of retrieving a fly after a cast has been made. This is done by grasping the fly line loosely with the index finger of the hand holding the fly rod, and then with the other hand, grabbing the line and pulling it towards yourself. Stripping line is a fly fishing technique primarily used for the application of fishing a streamer or minnow pattern.

How to use stripping line in a sentence

When fly fishing with a streamer pattern, you can increase your retrieval speed by stripping line to entice aggressive fish.
