Top Walleye Crankbaits

There are hundreds of crankbaits available that will help you catch fish. Each one has a slightly different action, running depth, profile, and fish-attracting capabilities. Captain Ross Robertson just might have more crankbaits than anyone else we know. He’s certainly fished his fair share of baits and knows how each will react in the water.

The Bay Rat Lures Short Deep Diver is designed, molded, and painted in the USA. It was created for anglers, by anglers. These are great all-around crankbaits that will work for walleye, bass, trout, salmon, and steelhead. The Short Deep Diver will dive down 8-15 feet and can be trolled or cast.

The Rapala Down Deep Husky Jerk can dive up to 20 feet deep when trolled, or 10 feet when cast. They are noted for running straight and true, maintaining their tracking even when trolling or retrieving at a fast pace. Try a rip-stop retrieve and leave them suspended for a few seconds to give this crankbait a different action.

Bandit Walleye Deep Divers are staple baits for walleye fishing, especially on the Great Lakes. They dive quickly to start fishing the strike zone fast. They have a solid reputation as a top-producing bait, and are referred to as walleye catching machines. These are a necessary bait for any walleye angler!

Another prime walleye bait, Reef Runner 800 Series Deep Divers would challenge any other bait for the top walleye-taker, especially on Lake Erie. Their natural darting action have the rare ability to open the mouths of otherwise tight-lipped fish. Another bait that can be cast or trolled, we definitely recommend that you have this bait on your line more often than not.

The Smithwick Perfect 10 Rogue is slightly larger than other crankbaits, but we know that big baits catch big fish. The rolling action on the Perfect 10 shows side-flash, just like a real baitfish, giving them a unique quality in the water. Combine these characteristics with the wide color variety and diving depths up to 15 feet when trolled, or 12 feet when cast and retrieved, and these crankbaits will produce.

These crankbaits offer some of the more popular options for anglers looking to troll or cast to trophy fish. They are proven fish-producers and consistently bring fish to the net no matter the fishing situation you are in. Of course, there are other crankbait options available from these brands and others that will offer hundreds of variations of colors, diving depths, actions, and purposes. If you are newly hooked on these baits, take Captain Ross’s advice and start with a few of these featured baits. He’s caught thousands of fish in his career and won’t steer you wrong. If you are a seasoned vet in the crankbait world, you’ll know that these lures represent the foundation to many tackle boxes, both on boats and land.
